Lennie is simple minded, but fit to work. 1. Lennie seems to have the mind of a twelve year old. This causes him To understand some things, but only if they are put in very simple terms. The simplicity of these could need to go as far back as good and bad in Order for him to really understand. If anything Lennie did would ever Really require him to think for himself, how would not be able to survive Very well. The only way Lennie would be able to do anything independently was if it required no thought to it, like manual labor.
George would also not have to do small jobs that no one else would want to do. His jobs could require a little more skill than the jobs that Lennie could take. This would help George be more successful in being out on his own than Lennie would. rge, the smaller of the two, can think for himself but not work as hard as Lennie. 1. George seems to use Lennie as a means of getting work. George makes the two of them look like a package deal. The person who wants to hire them sees how big and strong Lennie is and knows that someone like this will get a lot of work done. George does do his share of work, but it is not half as much as Lennie can do in the same amount of time. George is the one who can think for himself.
