Improving Our Business
There are many companies in our market that have, as the saying goes, gone “belly-up”. Sometimes is because of a lack of initiative and an incredible surge of stuborness. Some companies want to learn everything on their own and do not want to open the spectrum to see other ways of expanding their business. This should not happen to our own company. There are other companies in our market that have experienced great success, and there is not reason why we cant learn from them. There is plenty to learn from other companies that will help our own business to grow. Taking the best idea from three companies will help us get the necessary information to improve our own services and expand our market. I have gone out into the field to investigate why certain companies have been so successful. The first company I researched was Fed-ex. Another company that has had tremendous success is UPS. And the final company that has experienced a lot of growth is USF Holland. Together, these three companies can give us some serious insight as to what are the best strategies to use. First of all, Fed-ex offers a some very interesting views as to why they are so successful. One of them is the ability to think of new idea and not be
Globalization has also been an important part of UPS’s success. You never know where those brown trucks are headed next. Mike Eskew is the new CEO of the company, and has the vision of expanding and moving into more areas. Mike is even currently looking into steering the company deeper into Asia, where the rast-growing factory sector is opening new doors for UPS. Since they are also a company that keeps striving to be the best, they had realized they were not servicing the Asian market very well, so they stepped up their service. “Now, though, we’re only four hours away from every major Asian busness center. Being everywhere is a good idea that will definitely help expand their market share. Fed ex has also mastered the transportation management system. They combine people and technology to optimize cost and service. Inside this unique tranportation management service lies, transportation savings, discipline and control, convenience, and information. The transportation savings is due to Fed-ex’s superior carrier network and superior technology which make it easy for customer savings. The discipline and control is achieved by identifying delivery dates, and then determining the right mode or method of transportation for each shipment. They include convenience, because of the ability to electronically bill to each customers account, therefore creating a paperless environment. Information is also a key part of the system that haleps capture comlete datat about every companies shipments that help provide useful management reports to further improve their transportation processes. Another example of their Fed-ex’s success is the fact that they realize what th
