This story shows us a good message not only in our life but also in the religious way. Actually, to understand the story more clearly, we need to consider why Jesus Christ told the story and what is the background of the story. I am going to try to explain in the religious way to give you more critical idea about this story because it is originally came from a bible. The truth is that every verse in the Bible has three separate applications; Historical, Doctrinal, and Spiritual. Historical application is the factual event of which the passage describes, doctrinal application is the right divisions of the Bible from which the believer may understand the correct dispensational teachings of the word and the spiritual application is the way in which the Holy Ghost witnesses to the reader through the word of God. The true story of the prodigal son reveals these three applications clearly. The historical application is Jesus Christ speaking to the Pharisees, the doctrinal application is the difference between the Gentiles(prodigal) and the Jews(first born), and the spiritual application is
the repentance and the salvation of the lost sinner. The spiritual application is much easier. Anyone who reads this passage can apply it to themselves spiritually. The most important spiritual application is the sinners’ need to repent and be saved. The prodigal son was a wasteful and rebellious man who disobeyed his father and lived in sin. “Father I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am on more worthy to be called thy son. (p233)†This is why the Lord Jesus Christ came to this earth to save sinners. He shed his blood for the forgiveness of your sins, and died on the cross and rose up again in three days, as it is written in the Bible. Historically, Luke 5:11-32 are words of Jesus Christ spoken directly to the Pharisees, who were the self-righteous religious Jews of the time. They kept the Law of Moses to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, the physical kingdom on this earth promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, which they were to receive when their Messiah the King should come.
