creativity
Everyone has heard the saying that all men and women are created equal, yet our personalities differ in many ways. All of the little bits and pieces that shape who we are today come from a variety of aspects. Our background, involving how we were raised, certain experiences that we have come across, as well as the decisions that we make help mold us into the individual thinking, breathing species that we are today. Our creativity is based on these meaningful experiences and also differs in level. Some people are more creative than others, while some people are more creative in certain environments. Are there a number of distinct traits that only creative people display? How do I know whether or not I am creative? To answer all of these questions, we will take a look at the experiences that affected my life, the definition of creativity according to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, author of Creativity, the traits of a creative personality, the multiple intelligences that display the strengths of my creativity, as well some background on my culture. First of all, allow me to lay down the facts. I am a 21-year old Chinese male raised in the city of Fremont and born in Oakland. Not exactly the exciting, fast
Now we can continue onto the traits that a creative personality possesses. Rather than being an individual, I encompass a multitude of characteristics. The traits associated with creativity contain a spectrum of two ends of polar opposites. One trait in which I possess both ends of the spectrum would be that I alternate between imagination and fantasy at one end but I still have my sense of reality on the other. I love to daydream and imagine, yet when it comes down to business, I still assure that in the situation that I?m dealing with that the pros will surely outweigh the cons. Another trait that I would embody although the tendency is towards only one end of the spectrum would be that I am very passionate about my work and I never am extremely objective about it. I like all the work that I do and the only criticism I would allow from myself would be constructive. To bring balance into life with all these spectrums requires that the tendency to lean towards one side of the spectrum does not apply to the majority of the traits. Creative personalities require that you have a little taste of both sides for at least some of the traits. This evolution into a more creative person can also deal with the certain environments where one feels the most creative. When, where and with who do I feel the most creative? I felt that when I?m exposed to outside ideas and visuals, my creativity was boosted because I incorporate all that I see and hear around me into whatever I am creating. At my creative high, I feel that I can be most creative towards media involving computers for instance, graphic designs and internet flash intros display my work best, as well as all work relating to presentations such as acting and dance routines. Csikszentmihalyi states that, ?creativity can be observed only in the interrelations of a system made up of three main parts, domain, field, and the individual person.(p.27)? The domain is a set of symbolic rules and procedures, such as football. Field represents the individuals who decide whether a new product or idea should be incorporated into the domain, movie critics, voters, and consumers for example. Lastly, the individual person is someone who can see a new pattern with the given set of symbols within a domain; considered the inventor of a new idea or product. One can now see the changes in society that creativity can provoke. With this creative personality co
