The Source of Magic |

This book is number two of the Xanth series, the title The Source of Magic is significant because the main character, Bink, was wondering why Xanth had magic and Mundania didn’t. So he and his friends went on a quest to find the source of magic.
Xanth is a magical world with magical creatures and magical people. But how did it become magical, and why isn’t Mundania magical? Bink had talked to King Trent about this back before Trent was king. After Trent was crowned he gave Bink the title of Official Researcher of Xanth. Since Bink talent was protection against magic harm it seemed he would be safe, but what about physical harm and transportation? For this the King assigned Chester, a centaur good with a bow and arrow, and Crombie, a soldier whose talent is direction. Bink could ride Chester and King Trent could transform Crombie into a Griffin so he could fly and not need someone to ride.
The conflict in the story was man vs. nature because Bink had to fight against nature to find the source of magic. The nicklepedes in the crevice, the siren, and the fiends of the lake; these were all obstacles that Bink had to over come.

Below are additional random excerpts from the paper...
On their journey they go through the Amazon Village. At the village they explain how they have a problem with a siren that lures away their men, the women can’t hear it. After staying awhile they all hear it and start toward it. It goes on about how they fight a tangle tree, and then Chester gets hits by a goat in the side of the head, causing him to become deaf. Since Chester can’t hear, he shots an arrow toward the siren and kills it. They find out that she just offered them ‘love’, and the men that hadn’t been coming back were because of her sister, the Gorgon. She is much more beautiful then the siren, and also only wants to give ‘love’, but anyone that looks into her eyes turns to stone. The magician takes out a vial and tells her to put it to her face. The vial turns her face invisible rendering her harmless. They go back to the village and they have a celebration, but Bink continues on his journey.
Chester and Crombie’s fight was really savage, Chester had blood rake over his stomach from the Griffen’s talon’s. And Crombie had his foreleg broken, and half of his feathers was torn off one of his wings. All during this the Magiacain kept trying to open vials. Aand was on the last one and was successful. And evil eye came out. If it’s stare caught you, you would be stunned. Bink got a wedding gown, one of the magacian’s mistake vial, and put it between him and the evil eye, but it caught chester. Chester was stunned, and Crombie went in for the kill. He caught him in the eyes with his alons, and stepped backwards back into the poison lake. He sinks to the bottom.
Then he noticed that his bottle was gone! They found a broken piece of glass. They came to the conclsion that it was from the magicain’s mirror, and that some of it had gotten out. So they could see the magian and Crombie in the backround, but they couldn’t talk. They decided to delay the mission to find their friends.
After this whole thing with the tree, Grundy realizes that he cared. That was Grundy’s answer. To become real he would have to care. He cared for Bink and everyone’s saftey.
When he did get there, he saw that demon X(a/n)th was there. Bink talks to him and he says he came back because he was more comfortable here. While his magic was seeking out, their culture was seeping in. SO bink decided to try and make a deal. He told him about the shield stone that was used to over Xanth at one time, he could use it for his provacy so he can do his studies in privacy. X(a/n)th likes it, and decides that one thing will decide if he does it or not. He puts Bink in a testing lab, and a magical creture that he has to kill.
