In these plays Bleasdale toys with stereotypes to make his attitude towards them apparent to the audience .He does this by the dialogue and action he gives each character. In this essay I will examine a some of the ‘stereotypes’ he uses.

“I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what you want.”

“It’s not my job to … but you don’t seem to”

The quotes above are the words of a clerk at the Department of employment his whole speech is very sympathetic, with words like.

He also makes clear parts that are to be said quietly are stated, so it is apparent to the audience that the clerk is going out of his way to help yosser.

To make it clear that the clerk is aware of Yossers feelings.

It isn’tuntil “Yosser's Story” that he develops into his own person, as a man who has everything that matters to him taken away, from his dignity to his children.

Main character in “Yossers story” has three children to look after on his own, in “Jobs for the boys” yosser is seen as the annoying figure head butting others and repeating this phase,

And saying “Y’don’t get anywhere bein’ pleasant to shite”
