hunters in the storm

“Hunters in the Snow” was published in 1981 by Tobias Wolff. Tobias’s creative short story was very fascinating to me. It was full of action and he really brought out each character in the story. Each character was represented with there own personalities and comedies.

I really enjoyed Hunters in the Snow. It reminded me of how to be true and honest to yourself and your friends. Tub, whom was one of the main characters in this story, was an overweight man who blames his fats on his “glands”. He was the center of everyone’s jokes, he was everyone’s joke. His friends Kenney and Frank would make comments such as, “you haven’t seen your own balls in ten years”, and tub would reply back, “What am I supposed to do?” “It’s my glands”. He never wanted anyone to know he just loved to eat and couldn’t control what he did eat. Kenney and Frank were too laid back guys with there own problems. Frank was a man who was in love with his sixteen year old babysitter and wanted to leave his wife for her. He just didn’t know how to do it. This was his secret he kept from Tub. Kenney on the other hand, he was more of an unkind hearted man. He didn’t impress me much in this story. I really didn’t agr

They found a place stopped and started walking, it got really cold and dark and they couldn’t see anything in front of them, They turned back and continued back the cabin were their journey began. On the way back Kenney was getting very upset. He was yelling, “This is the worst day of hunting I ever had, bar none”. This will be the first season since I was fifteen I haven’t got my deer”. After his comments he started to into franks face and told him, “and you – you’re so busy thinking about that little jailbait of yours you wouldn’t know a deer if you saw one”. Kenney was really upset and started shooting and everything he could possible see and find. Until he went to deep and shot a dog that was barking. Tub looked and him and said, “He was just barking”, “I hate you”. Tub then turned around and shot Kenney. He felt that was the only thing he could do to get him to stop. He didn’t mean to shoot him it was just the first thing that came to mind.

Throughout the whole story Frank and Kenney really teased Tub to the point were it got really old. When they picked up Tub and started on there journey to find a place to hunt it was really cold. The car window was busted out, so cold breezed swept over there whole bodies. Tub was complaining it was too cold. Frank and Kenney were irritated with his bitching and quoted, “stop bitching tub, get centered”. “I wasn’t bitching”. “Centered”, Kenney said “Next thing you’ll be wearing a nightgown Frank selling flowers out at the airport”. “Kenney”, Frank said “you talk too much”. They did this thro
