Jim blames his parents for the confusion of himself and his family. He suffers from a lack of guidance, and experiences difficulty relating to his parents. They cause him to find it in other people or environments that may not be suitable. In order for a child to become a well-rounded adult the parents must be up to the challenge of offering guidance, yet they seem to be just as confused as Jim is on becoming an adult.

Jim takes control of the arguments he has between his parents. While Jim was arguing with his mother, Jim turns to his father for support.
