After changing the place of action Duncan, King of Scotland, and some of his followers arrive at a military camp nearby a battle field. The rebellion taking place there is against the King Duncan who wants to know how his army is fighting. A wounded soldier reports about the horrible bloody battle and emphazises the brave Thane of Glamis called Macbeth who saved the Scottish honour by fighting fearlessly and killing the rebels' leader.

Duncan is impressed by Macbeth's courage. And when the Thane of Ross tells his king about the Scottish's triumph in the battle, Duncan decides to put Macbeth in the position of the Thane of Cawdor. For that the old Thane of Cawdor who is exposed as a traitor is ordered to be executed.

Before Macbeth gets to know about his new title he and his friend Banquo meet the three witches. They tell the two warriors three predictions concerning their future before they leave them alone. According to that Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor and that he

At the royal party which takes place at the same night the two hosts secretly plan Duncan's murder. Lady Macbeth pushes her husband to commit the murder (she questions his manhood) although he's suddenly afraid of what he is doing. But finally he gives in and kills his king.

In the next scene at the king's palace Duncan personally thanks Macbeth for his good deeds and tells him at the same time that his son Malcom will inherit the throne. This would mean that the second prediction cannot be fulfilled.

Then Malcom arrives at Dunsinane and orders his troops to cut the trees and carry them up the hill.

When Macduff gets to know about this he and Malcom start with thousand men straight to overthrow Macbeth on his position. Meanwhile Macbeth's world in Scotland is falling apart and his wife has lost her mind. But he is only interested in his success and his pleasure.
