Baseball is more than just a sport, it’s a legacy, and Billy Crystal’s movie 61* does a magnificent job in explaining why. Sports have always appeared to me as simple games that people play. I'm sure that the men out there have talent, but why is it that they get paid more than doctors, scientists, and teachers? Other professions are easily much more important to the growth, development, and safety of the public, but they are seldom as demanding and stressful. Through watching 61* I have gained a new appreciation for both baseball and other sports alike. Most movies make baseball appear to be fun and games. They gloss up the players and make them look enthusiastic and full of energy. 61* is not, however, one of those movies. Instead of focusing on intense ball playing, the main goal of 61* is to make the viewer understand the vigorous life of a ballplayer and the overworked life that they must live in order to receive fame. 61* allows the audience to see both the positive and negative experiences that a ballplayer would live through. Some of the actors such as the present Mrs. Maris and his family did not look as though they fit the part. Mrs. Maris did not appear to be old enough in the present day. However, there are really not that many negative attributes to this movie. This film is not an ordinary baseball story. It does not just show the happiness and the fame that comes along with playing the game. People get to see the hardships these players must endure, and the sacrifices that they must make to gain their fifteen minutes of fame. While reaping the fruits of money and fame may taste so sweet, the bitterness o
