There are many different ways that the media tries to sell or advertise their many products on the market. Different companies have different strategies, but all are targeting a certain group of people when they market their product. When it comes to gender roles in advertising, some corporations are very gentle, trying not to offend anyone’s feminist or masculine views. Examples of male chauvinistic ways to present ads are represented in many advertisements. These ads are definitely directed at a male, heterosexual audience. At first look, it looks like the “Maxim” company is trying to sell sex, but after further inspection, it gets deeper in inferring that the binary of women being innocent will change and men will no longer be the aggressors in sexual relationships. The stereotype in society today is that smart, successful women are sexual prudes. In the Maxim ad, it shows a heterosexual woman who looks intelligent and professional behaving very promiscuous towards a straight male.

To further analyze the magazine advertisement, the audience must complete a 10 to 1 experiment. The first thing the audience notices is that the main subject in the ad is a heterosexual white male, dressed as a business man. He is wea

In the supporting advertisement, it shows the body of a beautiful, tan, well maintained, thin female body. She is wearing nothing but a snake skin bikini with ties at the hips. She is playing with the ties as if to tease a heterosexual male audience. Her face cannot be seen, only her mouth area and the bottom of her brown hair. Right above her left breast is a message that reads, “Yes, God is a man.” The girl is white or latina, it is hard to tell because the entire image of the beautiful woman is in black and white. There is a column on the right side of the image and it is in color. The ad is for a Chivas Regal type of Scotch Whiskey. The colored column stands out as the Whiskey bottle has bright colors bringing attention to it. There are many messages that this ad sends to the audience. God is supposedly the creator of everything. With the quote, placed so “innocently” over the woman’s perfect breast, it implies that God made this female, and she is one of his perfect creations. It, like the first ad, is selling the idea of sex, but a little differently. Chivas Regal is a Whiskey that is made on the Mexican shores. It could have the girl clad in a bikini because they want to remind the consumer of the beautiful women and beaches of Mexico. Then again it could just want the customers to think when picking their alcohol, “Hey, I saw an ad for this and it had a hot girl on it, I’ll try this.” The placement of the humorous quote is also funny. It is placed right above her chest bringing focus to a particularly sexual part of the female’s body.

If you look again to the first advertisement then is could be comparing its product to a beautiful woman, saying almost the same thing as for a lack of better words, “equal to a good piece of ass.” This ad also has its slogan under the female’s opened blouse. It is funny, but almost demeaning how they do this because it is turning her body into a sex object rather than recognize her as a human being.
