             There are many different interpretations, and misconceptions about the term "feminism". I support many of the issues that are considered to be women's issues within our culture; reproductive rights, freedom of sexuality, and equality within the workplace. Why is it then that feminism is often considered to be a form of "male-bashing" or a "femini-nazi" way of thinking? Feminism is defined as a social movement that seeks to change the traditional role and image of women and there are many beliefs associated with feminism that many feel strongly about yet these people would not define themselves as feminists. If one were to take a closer look at these ideologies of feminism it would become evident that these beliefs are not so radical.
             Many men (yes, and women) choose not to associate themselves with feminism, in the belief that they are making a negative declaration. Due to the many myths and negative connotations associated with .

             feminism, often times they may find themselves on the defensive when labeling themselves as such. .
             Lesbians and "man-haters" are often categorized within the feminist movement. There are indeed many lesbians who are feminists. Does that mean that every lesbian is a feminist or that every single feminist is a lesbian? Some feminists do not feel favorably towards men. Not all feminists wish men harm, nor do they dislike them. There are many different beliefs within any ideology. It seems as though any part which one does not agree with, automatically becomes their form of prejudice.
             Another general stereotype of a feminist is of women who do not shave or choose to wear makeup. However, all feminists are not women. There are many, men and women, that simply buy into society's stigmas and guidelines of what is considered feminism. .
             The simple act of not shaving or wearing makeup may just in fact be laziness. Some may prefer the extra fifteen minutes of sleep every morning as opposed to painting their face and clogging their pores.
