why I chose teaching

I have always enjoyed helping others to learn. When I was in high school I was also taking cosmetology, I really enjoyed helping the other students to understand the material. It made me feel good when I could help someone learn something. However in high school I had no intention to go on to college, the only thing that interested me was hair and skin care. When I graduated I started working as an assistant in a salon, numerous times I would stay after to help other assistants to learn. I continued to do that even as a stylist. I became so interested in teaching others that I started to train for Redken to become one of their educators. I completed my training and started teaching for Redken doing in salon education. After a few years doing hair, and working for Redken I decided that I wanted to learn more, so I went back to school to become an aesthetician. When I was finished my instructor offered me a job part time as a teacher in the school. I continued until my regular job had become to demanding to do both. I then left the Wilmington and moved to Lewes, to take a job that was a better experience for me. In January of 2001 I was involved in a car accident, and more then likely I will have some form of permanent damage, so I decided that I needed to have something else to do for a living. In July of 2001 I enrolled at Del-Tech. I had originally started to major in business management. I thought that maybe I could manage a salon or a Plastic surgeons office, but after the first semester I decided that I really did not want to do that type of that type of work. I decided that I would rather teach, so I changed to the teaching curriculum. With my cosmetology license and my aesthetician license and a two-year education degree I can teach anywhere. I could teach at a vo-tech high school, beauty school or at a skin care school. It is rather difficult to work full time and go to school full time, but hopefully the struggle will be worth .
