The Collapse of the Second Wave of Globalisim

The second wave of globalisation can be seen to have two major components. One being industrialization, the other colonialism. They were said to be self supporting by contemporaries in that they provided each other with the opportunities and materials necessary to maintain and develop their further successful co-existence. In simplistic terms, the newly dawned era of industrialisation drove the need for cheap raw materials. This, in turn, provided the motivation for Britain and other north west European countries to take to the seas and pursue the capturing of foreign shores. From these foreign shores, cheap raw materials, as well as exotic goods, were found and could be shipped back to the mother country. Attaining a kind of permanent dominance or sovereignty over these nations was deemed necessary to ensure supply of raw materials. And so, colonisation became a imperative fixture on Britain’s and others’ industrialisation agendas. Control of the colonies guaranteed the supply of cheap raw materials to feed the hungry new machines of industrialisation back at home. This continual spiral of exigency created the ultimate downfall of the second wave of globalisation. It left in its path over-exploited and desolated colonies that
