Tabasco was one of the orginal states of Mexico. It was first crossed by Fernando Cortez of Spain in 1524. Tabasco comes from the word Tlavashco which means "Place that has owner." But some have also translated it to "Watery earth."
Tabasco has a surface area of 24,475 square kilometers, and a population of about 891,829. It is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the north, The State of Campeche to the northwest, The Republic of Guatamala to the south west, The State of Veracruz to the west, and The State of Chiapa
