Central Idea: STD’s and AID’s can be very painful and sometimes deadly (AIDS is always deadly) and can be prevented by engaging in safe sex or remaining abstinent.

A. Sounds like something someone would make up right? Wrong.

1. This happens all to often, and is often times done by prostitutes.

II.There are many ways to prevent horrible situations like this one from occurring.

A. In my speech, I am going to try and persuade you to do one of two things.

1. For those of you who are still virgins, I will try and persuade you to remain one.

2. And for those of you who engage in sexual activities, I will try and persuade you to do so in a safe manner.

III.My credibility is that I, even though I’ll be 21 in less then 21 days, am still a virgin and will share some of my opinions with you. I am also not condoning sex, however safe sex is better then no protection at all.

(Transition: First I will discuss with you what abstinence is and the benefits you will have from being a virgin.)

A. Researcher Dr. George Grant stated that a 14 year old girl faithfully taking the pill has a 69% chance of getting pregnant at least once before graduating college.

IV.Although I’m sure some of those numbers listed about where using birth control; the numbers would be so much higher if birth control were not so effective. Certain contraceptives can help prevent both STDs and AIDS.

1. They are approximately 85% effective, and this is mostly in part by the errors that the people who use them do. Such problems are putting them on correctly and where they are stored until usage.

B. Despite what some people may think, one can still contract AIDs without having sex, however this is rarely ever heard of.
