Lord of the Flies
In the novel Lord of the flies by William Golding. Simon, Ralph, and Piggy are an example of victims which helps to reinforce Golding's theme that “evil is inherent in man”. Simon is the perfect example, of what William Golding’s theme is about. As he wrote this character, he must have been thinking of the way this would impact his readers. He shows Simon as a small, skinny, young boy, that had no way of defending himself from the other older boys, that were running wild. In addition he showed Simon was a saint- like presence on the island. Making the reader feel proud of what this boy stands for goodness and innocence in him. A good example of this is when Simon tries to tell the boys, what he thinks, he thinks the beast is. “What I mean is... maybe it’s only us”, “We could be sort of...” pg#96. “Simon’s effort fell about him in ruins the laughter beat him cruelly and he shrank away defenseless to his seat.” pg#98 Later on in the story Simon finds out that here isn’t a beast, he tries to tell the boys. This information that would help, if not save the unity of the group. By showing them that, there is nothing to be feared. But irony was going to
