insurance

In Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” Polonius says to Laertes (briefed) “ neither a borrower, nor a lender be, for loan oft loses both itself and friend, and borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. This above all- to thine own self be true; and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man. Basically he’s saying that since Laertes is going off by his self to France he doesn’t want his son to be dependent on any one he wants him to depend on himself only. It is unworthy when you borrow things from other people or need help from other people and, not being able to do things on your own is disgraceful. Polonius just wants his son to be successful and true to his self.

If I were to say to Hamlet “To Thine Own Self Be True” to me it would me tell what you know, say what you feel, be true to your self. Hamlet knows all this and his mother doesn’t but if he were to tell his mother this she would most likely not bel

ieve him and think he was just mad because of his father’s death. So Hamlet is torn apart, not knowing what to do about the whole thing and the fact of the matter is that Hamlet’s father wants him to avenge his death and kill the new king. What is he to do? If he were told “To Thine Own Self Be True” do you think that maybe he might of told someone what was going on? I think that Hamlet was in a predicament that he had no control over, he couldn’t really tell anyone cause they already thought he was mad and had he said anything the king would have had him sent away sooner and killed. When he finally did tell his mother of what his father had told him she did think he was mad and looked at him in a disbelieving way and in a way upset that Hamlet would ever say anything like that about the man she was with now. Hamlet was in a position to where he thought that the only way out would be DEATH hence his “To Be or Not To Be” monologue. Now Ophelia comes into the pictures because, she like Hamlet is in a predicament as well she and Hamlet are in love but because Hamlet is a prince and Ophelia is a peasant gir
