Going to the Races
It was a lovely cool evening as we drove onto the long gravel driveway into the Franklin County Speedway. Eddie had not been to this short, oval, blacktop track in over twenty-five years. He used to, as a young energetic boy, sell hot and cold refreshments and snacks to the many dedicated fans on Saturday nights as they watched with glee their favorite drivers race their hearts out to be the undisputable winner of the race. Along for the entertainment were Missy (my sister), Jessica (my bright eyed, happy go lucky niece), and my racing fanatic brother-in-law David. David was in an excited and happy state of mind. We were all excited and ready to see some live and up close entertainment. We traveled through the dusty gravel road to the wide opened nice and pretty green grassy lot located on the backside of this centrally located track. We came expecting, as the sign read, for the race to start at 7 pm. Well, needless to say, it did not. During this time, Jessica could not keep her short little body still. I played with her a little. We would travel up and down the green grassy
