heroin debate

Victoria should introduce heroin trials and permanently keep heroin injecting rooms. Having heroin trials would mean that heroin addicts would be able to go to a doctor who would prescribe the patient heroin in the short term and then slowly move onto other drugs, which are less harmful, but help to break the habit. Injecting rooms are places where heroin addicts can go to ‘shoot up’ in a safe, supervised environment. These two projects would help get people off heroin, provide a safer environment for the public and decrease the number of heroin addicts on the street. Victoria currently has a problem with heroin and something must be done about it.

Heroin trials would help people to stop using heroin and stay off it for life. Currently, the only other method used to help people break the habit is using the drug methadone. The problem with this treatment is that only 5% of GP’s in Victoria are registered to dispense this drug and very few pharmacies are willing to dispense it as well. With the new heroin trials, any doctor could administer heroin and all doctors would be able to dispense the follow up to heroin, a new drug called buprenorphine. This new drug and trial has just undergone a full investigation nationally and

By introducing heroin trials and keeping injecting rooms, Victoria will solve many of their drug problems all in the one go. They would help get people off heroin, provide a safer environment for the public, reduce unnecessary deaths and decrease the number of heroin addicts on the streets, all in the one go. Without introducing these two projects the problem will just get worse. Victoria must introduce heroin trials and injecting room

Many people are opposed to the idea of heroin trials and injecting rooms as heroin is an illegal drug. Some people may view the projects as endorsing illegal drugs and encouraging others to do heroin. They fear that this will increase the number of addicts instead of reducing them. Although heroin is an illegal drug, the government still needs to take some action to turn around the drug users. Just because the drug is illegal doesn’t mean the government ignores the people who are caught up in the drug heroin. Even though these projects may be in operation, the police would not take a slacker approach towards the illegal users. The government would simply be introducing a method to help these people get back their lives while still prosecuting the offenders. In accordance with these measures, the government’s drug adviser, Dr. David Penington, was also planning on introducing a program on illegal drugs to make aware to the public how bad the drugs really are and hopefully, detract attention away f
