            Analysis of "In Search of Our Mothers" Gardens".
             This is a literary analysis of "In Search of Our Mothers" Gardens an essay by Alice Walker a contemporary, African-American writer. Walker was poised to write about the historical black woman's role during the post-reconstruction era. "In Search of Our Mothers" Gardens was written to show the contemporary young black woman of today how the historical black woman kept intense spirituality. The contemporary young black women of today are losing tough with their spiritualities unlike the historical black woman. The general situation in the essay is to observe the historical black woman on how she worked the hardest and most out of everyone in the family but still was overlooked. The historical black woman kept intense spirituality throughout all her difficulties. By having this level of spirituality the historical black woman was able to overcome many of the obstacles that they faced. The spirituality of the historical black woman allowed Walker to express her emotions in historical allusions, literary allusions, and symbolism.
             The author employee's a variety of historical allusions to the essay. Walker starts off by calling the historical black women "sexual objects". The historical black women were called sexual objects because the men looked upon the historical black woman not for her brains or personality but mainly for sex. "Sexual objects" is implied because the author is making a point of how the historical black woman was to be looked upon but how men obverse the historical black woman differently as she became known as a "Saint". The essay refers to post-reconstruction South because this is the time period of which the historical black woman lived. The historical black woman was called mule of the world because the historical black woman was the work horse of the family and worked the hardest out of everyone. Next is "deprived white overseer's lash," which represented how the historical black woman white slave owner's mistreated the historical black woman.
