egypt

Egypt is the world’s oldest civilization having emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 years ago, historically. Egypt, at the northeast corner of Africa on the Mediterranean Sea, is bordered on the west by Libya, on the south by the Sudan, and on the east by the Red Sea and Israel. It is nearly one and one-half times the size of Texas.

Egypt is probably one of the oldest vacation spots. Early Greeks, Romans and others went there just for fun, and to see the wonders of some of mankind’s earliest triumphs. Egypt is much more than Pyramids and monuments. It is also Red Sea scuba diving, desert safari, luxury hotels, and five star restaurants. It is romantic cruises down the Nile on festive river boats, a night at the grand opera and it is a cultural experience like none you have ever experienced. Egypt is a land bustling with life, sound, visual beauty and excitement.

Egypt is officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, NE Africa and SW Asia. Egypt's capital and largest city is Cairo. In addition to the capital, major cities include Alexandria, Port Said, Suez, Tanta, Giza, and Aswan. Mr. Hosni Mubarak is President, Commander in Chief of the Army, and the leader of the National Defense Council.

Most businesses are opened from 8am to 5pm and closed on Friday and most holidays. Many grocery stores and gas stations are opened 24 hours, 7 days a week. Banks are opened from 8am to 2pm and closed Friday, Saturday and most holidays. Government offices are opened from 8am to 3pm and closed Friday and most holidays. Shops are opened from 10am to 9pm in Winter and to 10pm in Summer and most shops are closed on Sundays.

Summer is hot and dry in most of the Egyptian country and humid in the Delta and along the Mediterranean Coast. Winters are mild with some rain, but usually there are bright, sunny days and cold nights. There is a short spring and autumn and during 50 days between the end of March and mid-May, dust storms can occur sporadically.

Deciding when to come to Egypt depends on where you want to go. Everywhere south of Cairo is uncomfortably hot in the summer, June-August, especially Luxor and Aswan. So winter (December-February) is the best time to visit these areas. Summer is also the time when the Mediterranean coast is at its most crowded, but winter in Cairo can get pretty cool. March to May is the best time to enjoy the warm days without the crush of bodies on the beaches and midday heat of high summer.

There are a variety of good options for getting to Egypt, with good connections between Cairo and many European cities. Super-cheap holiday packages including hotel vouchers can work out cheaper than booking a flight independently. Flights from elsewhere can be expensive and it’s worth looking into flying to Europe first and then making your way to Egypt from there, as this is often a cheaper option than flying direct. Egypt’s national air carrier is EgyptAir. Most travelers come to Egypt through Cairo, although people are increasingly disembarking in Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, and Sharm el-Shiekh. These airports are s
