Differences Between Analog and Digital Television

Analog and digital television are in two worlds of

their own. Analog by definition means a recorded

signal that fluctuates exactly like the original

signal. Digital signals are those that have been

broken apart into a binary code that uses 1’s and 0’s

to determine on or off values. At the first look, it

seems that it would be better to use the original

analog signal, which holds the ‘true’ elements of

video and sound. In television, due to the different

types of television screens and many pieces of

equipment, quality can be lost in wires and other

sources when it comes to analog recording. In the

process of digitization, the signal is converted to a

binary code, which will not lose quality over many

generations. Nowadays, advancements in technology

have led to digital television. With HDTV, a whole

new world has been opened up in the television
