Deism

Deism is said to be a “way of thinking which claimed that only what is open to human reason can concern man”. Deist are much different from the Puritans they believe that man has a good chance of turning good, man will not move toward corruption because God is waiting for them. Deist believe in man first, nature second, and God third. The Deist Creed is what the Deist live by. It consist of eleven elements, however there are three that I believe to be most important. The three elements that I find to be most important from the Deist Creed are: “Man is possessed of moral and intellectual facilities sufficient for the improvement of his nature and the acquisition of happiness”,

“The religion of nature is the only universal religion; it grows out of the moral relations of intelligent beings, and it stands connected with the progressive improvement and common welfare of the human race”, and “Science and truth, virtue and happiness, are the great objects to which the activity and energy of the human faculties ought to be directed.”

Each one of these major elements is portrayed in “The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin”
