The major idea/ theme of the story is that Ray Kinsella (the main character) is determined to build a baseball field where his cornfield once was, because of a vision and a voice in his head from a baseball announcer telling him “If you build it, he will come”(he believes the voice to be Shoeless Joe Jackson).d. The story took place in Iowa in the 1960's. e. Ray- main character, who loves baseball, has very big dreams, and is determined to fulfill them. He is also a great father and husband. Annie- Ray’s wife who believes in him very much and respects him greatly. J. D. Salinger- Ray’s friend from Iowa City who only dreamed of making it to the major leagues.
