Sleepy Hollow/Ichabod
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is Washington Irving’s classic tale of life in NewYork after the American Revolution” (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow 1). This town of Sleepy Hollow and its characters have become a permanent part of this country’s folklore. The story originated in German folklore, “capturing feelings of a country being transformed from classical lifestyles to romantic dreams” (History of American Literature1). Ichabod Crane is the story’s main character. What intention did Irving have Some scholars suggest that Ichabod is the model for comic portrayals of the country school teacher in the nineteenth century fiction (The Legend 1).
