When asked, “How could you deny an abortion to a twelve year old girl who is the victim of incest?” (Reardon, 1) you stated, that most women would choose not to have an abortion, if this situation came about. Would you feel the same way if your own 12 year old daughter was raped and impregnated? You state in your paper, “it is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would want an abortion”. You then quoted from what you referred to as the only, major study of pregnant rape victims ever done, citing Dr. Sandra Mahkorn. She found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortions. Some questions that I have for you are, how many women were involved in this study, how old were they, and did religious beliefs influence them? Were other studies conducted that did not concur with your personal and religious point of view? What constitutes a “major” study? Further, you state that most people reach the wrong conclusion about abortion and “most people, including sexual assault victims who have never been pregnant, are therefore forming opinions based on prejudices and fears which are disconnected from reality.” What give you the right, or the authority, to make such statements, especially in light of the fact that you have never been pregnant either, Dr. David C.
