A Different Way to Fly
Have you ever dreamt of flying? People always wanted to fly. Flying gives you the feeling of freedom and invincibility. Everyone finds his own way to “fly.” One doesn’t necessarily have to flutter like a butterfly or soar in the wind like an eagle. Horseback ridding has become my way to fly. It’s a beautiful sport. You can compare the feelings you have to the experience of flying arrow. Horseback riding is a dangerous sport because you have to deal with a living creature and you have no idea what’s on its mind, but once you learn to control your own emotions and behavior, saddle the horse and give it proper commands, it will become simple and enjoyable. It’s very important to be able to control your own emotions and behavior. Animals can feel if you are afraid of them. The first time I saw the horse, I was scared. I was afraid that I got a kicker and it will throw me off. As a result of that, when I finally tried to make the horse move, it simply ignored me. It felt that I wasn’t sure of my abilities, so it simply didn’t move. Only when I stopped being afraid, was I able to make it react to me. There is a set of commands, which you have to know in order to be able to control the horse you are riding. Every command consists of the combination of a kick and the movement of the rein. It was the hardest part for me. To make the horse turn right I had to kick it with my left foot and to pull the to the left. I never found out what the kick was for, but the pulling made the horse turn its head in the direction I needed to turn. manage to fall of the horse while trying to get on. Usually it’s not entirely my fault. When I put the saddle on, Ace puffs up his stomach and when I try to get on him, he lets all the air out; the belts loosen up and I end up on the ground. This is his way of saying that he doesn’t want to work today. Then I have to bride him with sugar and carrots to make him cooperate with me. It’s important to make the horse trust you and want to cooperate with you. Horses are just like humans; they have unique traits of character and it’s very important to find a way to make them want to help you. It is takes a lot of time, love and effort to reach that goal.
