The USA didn’t admit to have the right to interfere in the domestic affairs in Vietnam nor did they claim the right to decide what kind of government was right for South Vietnam, but they did claim the responsibility to help defend South Vietnam from foreign aggression. The US decided that North Vietnam and communist China had no right to forcibly impose their social system of government on South Vietnam, it was decided that the South Vietnamese people would themselves choose a government that was right for them.
In the North the communist one-party totalitarianism government has been imposed by force and in the South the many religious, social and political interest groups keeps the South divided. USA argued that they weren’t fighting only for the independence of the Vietnamese people but were also fight for the collective responsibility among nations to resist aggression and to stop the spread of communism through-out the Asian Pacific region. On the 31st of March 1966 the objectives for Australian’s involvement in
to go to Vietnam because if they didn’t stop the Viet Cong then there is a great chance that most of Asia and maybe even the entire world could be communist. If Vietnam wasn’t stopped then communism would have spread throughout the Asia-Pacific region then throughout Asia gathering momentum and more forces and resources as it went along. So in conclusion I believe that it was a good thing that Australia, USA and any other allied nations went to Vietnam and stopped the communist threat.
