Pete Rose was one of the greatest hitters to ever play in the game of baseball. He finished his career with 4,256 hits, a record that will probably stand for decades to come. Pete Rose should have been an obvious choice for the Hall of Fame. In August of 1989, Pete Rose was banned from Major League Baseball for gambling. Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame? Pete Rose was one of the greatest athletes to play baseball. An induction into the Hall of Fame should not be based on moral behavior. On the other hand, how can a society condone unacceptable behavior from athletes? Induction into the Hall of Fame suggests to the youth of society that it is all right to break laws.

Major League Baseball should not care about the morals of a person but rather his ability and skill. It does not matter Pete Rose bet on baseball. He still holds the record for career hits. The National Basketball Association allows, "Bad Boy" Dennis Rodman to play basketball, despite his offending presence and antics. The National Basketball Association allows Rodman to play because he averages over 10 rebounds a game. Major League Baseball should base their evaluation of Pete Rose on his athletic ability and accomplishments not his

Pete Rose has lived almost 15 years in humiliation and shame for betting on baseball. He should be forgiven. Pete Rose loved the game of baseball with all of his heart when he played. He will always love baseball, and to take baseball away from him is more punishment than is deserved. When reporters had asked Rose's ex-wife why she left him, she had said, "He loves baseball more than anything, and to see him without baseball would take the spirit out of anyone." Pete Rose has suffered for almost 15 years without the love of his life: baseball. This should be enough punishment. America's justice system has parole for most convicted criminals. Like our justice system the current Major League commissioner should forgive Pete Rose. Pete Rose should be reconsidered to be in the Hall of Fame.

Pete Rose knew what would happen to him if he gambled on baseball. In 1919 Major League Baseball banned 8 players for life due to gambling. This incident has been highly publicized and made known to all America. These banned players are known today as the "Black Sox" rather than their true name, the White Sox. Major League Baseball was following protocol. Pete Rose knew he should not have gambled on baseball, but he did it anyway.

Until Pete Rose is inducted into the Hall of Fame there will always be loyal supporters insisting on Rose being in the Hall of Fame. These loyal supporters will strike out against the current Major League Baseball trying to rob them of their good image. Many people are able to overlook what Pete Rose has done, and they insist Major League Baseball do the same.
