Guns don’t only cause crimes and murders, but they are used a lot more to protect people than to cause crimes. Most gun owners consider gun control to be an infringement of all citizens’ rights to keep and bear arms. Americans may be fanatical about gun ownership. However, to believe that every gun owner is susceptible to using a gun in violent act is somewhat unrealistic since half the house holds in America contain guns (Polsby and Brennen). An estimate that guns are used, “Five times more often to prevent crimes that to commit them” (Fif

teen Myths). During the time period 1973-1992, gun ownership increased 73% while one thousand fewer accidental deaths occurred (Polsby and Brennen).

It is estimated that at the present time there are more than 20,000 state and federal gun control laws in this country (Polsby). However due to lack of enforcement, these laws have had little effect on criminals using guns during crimes. They started strict gun control laws in United Kingdom and Canada and the crime rate hasn’t lowered (Otero 2-6). Switzerland has one of the lowest murder rates in the world. This country requires that a military-issue rifle and ammunition be kept in the dwellings of all males from the age of 20-50 (Fifteen Myths 1). Furthermore, new laws banning gun ownership would only serve to cause law abiding citizens to seek guns illegally. They may just be a normal citizen that just wants to protect their family from the real criminals that get guns off of the market. Either
