Deconstrution of a magasine
Deconstruction of ‘Angels’ MagazineThe magazine I am writing about is called ‘Angels’. We have been giving the task of producing a magazine cover and deconstructing it; this will include what the magazine is about, an Audience profile and the Deconstruction essay on why it is laid out like this and also who the target audience is aimed at. The purpose of magazines is to make money for the company, by raising current issues and trends and using suspense on the cover to sell their magazine. Each individual magazine on the market has its own particular target audience, and the one for ‘Angels’ is 12 to 15 year old girls, as this teenage subculture tends to be the ones who buy most magazines The background is a baby blue, which gives it girl appeal, as girls of the age of the target audience like these sorts of colours. The main picture is Justin Timberlake, who is a very popular music artist, and would appeal to the target audience, who see him as an icon. Your eyes don’t focus on the blue background because the foreground picture takes your attention away. The main focal point of the magazine is the picture, as it is in the centre, and would attract the attention of a potent
ial reader. As Justin Timberlake is seen as a teen icon, the audience would be attracted to this, and would want to know why he is on the cover, so may persuade them into buying it. The other pictures on the cover are Keanu Reeves, in an action scene from ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ as he is another teen icon, and may attract more teenage readers. Also, there is Christina Aguilera, who is the top female icon at the moment and someone who many teenage girls aspire to be, so they would want to read more about her. The last picture is one of the ‘Mr Potato Head’ family playing ‘Twister’, and this would add comedy value to the cover, but also has connotations of the young age of the audience, and perhaps, that they may not be as grown up as they would like to be, so makes the magazine more relevant for their age group. The ’20 tips for the ultimate sleepover’ feature is the smallest one on the page, but would appeal to the large teenage female audience, who enjoy sleepovers, and tend to compete to have better ones than their friends, so this would help them with this. It is written in purple to make it stand out on the cover, but not as much as other features, showing that it is not a very important article in comparison. The picture shows a game of ‘Twister’ which is a game that may be played at parties and sleepovers, so would make the reader feel that they would have to buy the game to have a better party. The ‘Mr Potato Head’ family playing the game shows the true young innocence of the audience, and shows that although they may think they are grown up, they would still enjoy fun such as the game shown. The gossip section is shown by a picture of Christina Aguilera, which would make the reader want to know what she has done to be in the celebrity gossip section, so this would attract more attention to the magazine. The caption says ‘ What’s been happening in celeb land this month? Read all the latest gossip here!’ showing that there is something new happening every month, and that this magazine is very up to date with everything that is happening with celebrities. This caption is written in pink and purple to give it the more female appeal, which connotes t
