River Runs
In the last one hundred years, man has reshaped the earth more than any of its preceding generations. Today, we as Americans are making changes to our land, sea, and sky more radical and rapidly than ever before. These changes have caused a drastic and direct impact on our living environment. Our air is becoming choked and acrid due to the amount of waste we pour into it. Our water is becoming undrinkable and we are running out of natural resources. As each day passes, Americans are becoming increasingly concerned about the earth’’s environment. Generating solutions for these environmental problems is not easy considering there are 36.5 million citizens in California alone. To achieve a better environment, we as Americans have to work together to create a substantial environment. Recycling is a great way to get started in creating a better environment. Americans are starting to recycle goods that you wouldn’t imagine such as concrete, computers, glass, metals, plastics, etc. All of these products and more are being reused thanks to Americans contributing to recycling. The key is to make recycling so it easy that it flows with our everyday lifestyle, for example, brushing our teeth. Every mornin
Over 70% of our earth is water. Americans who enjoy the earth’’s waters and beaches also have a stake in keeping it clean. Many organizations have been formed to help stabilize water and beach contamination. The Surfrider Foundation is one of many organizations who advocate the federal Beaches Environmental Assessment, Closure and Health Act, which sets nationwide standards for beach water quality. If you want to help keep the trash off your local beaches, Pack Your Trash is another organization that protects and keeps the beaches and waters clean. Our earth’’s oceans are polluted daily, whether is be simple trash, toxic waste, or oil spills. All of these items have effect on our ocean, ocean life, and our own life. Imagine summer is coming, the sun is hot, the waves are up, and there is a sign saying, ””beach closed to contaminated water.”” This is a nightmare for any American, and of course the question comes up, why? On every city street there is a storm drain. As rain falls over roads, parking lots, construction sites, and industrial or commercial sites, it becomes contaminated with oil and grease, heavy metals, pesticides, litter, fecal matter, and pollutants from vehicle exhaust. This polluted runoff flows into storm drains along roadsides and into our oceans. Along with polluted rain comes trash. Countless Americans liter down storm drains daily which leads to more contaminated waters and more deaths of sea life animals. Help an organization near you and together we can make our summer and future summers clean and beautiful for future generations. In conclusion, Americans have assembled a lifestyle overtime to make life simpler. This created lifestyle will play a major role in the near future of preserving our earth. As Americans, we must work together in any situation that comes at hand. We must take immediate action and fight together to keep our Mother Nature beautiful and forever giving. With a quick trip to the local hardware store, inexpensive ener
