Various types of typographical styles and design influenced the many graphic designers around the world. During this time, the designers were using a form of national communication in this period of International Dialogue. This rapid growth of graphic designs and ideas spread around the world quickly, especially with the help of technology and printing possible.

The images of various designs were also changing and so were the styles. During the 1980’s and 1990’s, these styles had a whole new look as technologies were beginning to advance and immense global dialogues that were connected with the national visions. Diversity and culture were the key elements to the different styles of many designs. Many different countries had designers who helped them develop unique and cultural standpoints for their own designs. There were three main countries that especially did this and they were United Kingdom, Japan, and the Netherlands.

During Japan’s period of designs, the Japanese wanted to keep their national tradition in their designs while still have western influences and styles. On of Japan’s designers, Ryuichi Yamashiro, successfully shows us this with his “Tree-Planting” posters.

In 1978, a group of Rotterdam designers created a new magazine named “Hard Werken” with their designers as “Hard Werken Design.” This design group was open to any conceivable typographic or image possibility resulted in surprising and original results. They not only emphasized the message content, but also the methods and materials used to convey it to and audience. Their mission was to create design for clients actively working for meaningful social or political change

Gert Dumbar founded Studio Dumbar in 1977. He rejected what he called “dehumanized forms” and advocates graphic design with “stylistic durability to survive beyond its time.” In 1960, he developed a technique called “stage photography” consisting of still lifes and environments incorporating found materials with papier-mâché figures and objects sculpted of assembled. Many of the photos were layered with complex typography. By the 80’s many designers were copying his style. In his designs, he used the elements of fun and play. So from this period of national dialogues and expressions, people are now more and more combining technology and the inspired designs of others with their traditional culture and modern forms. As the older styles began to fade away, many designers have strived to developed a cultural identity using art and at the same time, preserving their traditions. So during this period, the designs were of local traditions and cultures and the self expressions of the people through graphic design.
