Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy, To the parents of William Edward Shore and Francis Smith-Shore. One year after Florence was born her family moved to Derbyshire, England into a house that her father had inherited. In 1844, Florence’s cousin, Henry Nicholson, proposed to her but she declined.

After this period of collecting facts on her sanitation project for India, she is bed ridden and only sees people when there is an appointment, one at a time. Upon her return from the Crimean War she never made a public appearance, never attended another public function, and never made another public statement again. To help get her ideas out, she invented charts and tables in which she uses her notes on the Army and the Hospitals she had once visited.
