Nietzsche treated art as something higher than ordinary, mass-conventional logic and rationality such as that in science, for he admired creativity and beauty in art above all things. His values may or may not be the same as any other, but a good artist should be able to combine creativity with his perception of the world and life and express it well in his work. Despite the fact that many more people are familiar with the works of Nietzsche than compared with Bishop, both are very good artists whose art imposed order by being enjoyed by the masses. The function of art is one of supporting, maintaining, affirming, and enhancing life. Nietzsche and Bishop’s art are highly elaborated and ornamental poetic pieces of prose. They both sought to create order. Nietzsche’s art attempts to free other peoples’ minds, where as Bishop’s art is much more personal and introspective. Nonetheless, both artists used art to maintain order in their lives and the lives of others.

Nietzsche never once referred to himself as an artist, but it is rather hard to not give him that title after reading some of his prose. In Nietzsche’s opinion, artists aren’t that significant because they don’t stand a chance in changing the world. “Artists do not stand nearly independently enough in the world and against the world for their changing valuations to deserve attention in themselves” (Genealogy of Morals 102.) Like a true artist, Nietzsche never let morals or some sort of doctrine dictate his art. However his “art” scarred many German officials, and thus he was locked up and declared “insane” in the last couple years of his life.
