Jane Eyre
I read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It has 548 pages. There are two main characters. The book is narrated by Jane Eyre. She was a very strong person throughout the book. Jane's parents died when she was young, and she was forced to put up with the cruelty of her Aunt Reed. Jane also dealt with the hardships in the orphanage, not knowing her family, with Mr. Rochester, being poor, and some other things. During her life, Jane learned and accomplished many things. Mr. Rochester was another main character. He was first introduced when Jane was walking, and he fell off his horse. Jane helped him back up. She didn't realize who the man was until later. Mr. Rochester was left to be the master of Thornfield Hall after his father and older brother died, so he is very rich and socially superior to many people. He is usually described as being stern, but he could also be very caring at times. As the novel progressed, Mr. Rochester and Jane fell in love, but there were some obstacles between them. One conflict in this novel was when Jane found out about Mr. Rochester's wife, Bertha Mason, who was still living. That hurt their relationship. He gave Jane an explanation about his wife and the situation he was put in. Jane h
Another conflict that appeared in this novel was when St. John said he wanted Jane to go to India with him to be his missionary and his wife. Jane told him she would go as his missionary but certainly not his wife. St. John insisted she be his wife and told her to refuse his proposal is like denying the Christian faith. He then left the room upset. During the following weeks St. John continued to pressure Jane to marry him. Jane resisted as kindly as she could, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. At one point Jane felt compelled to marry him. She then heard the voice of Mr. Rochester, and the thought of marrying St. John was forgotten. I thought the ending was great because everything turned out fine. Mr. Rochester and Jane got married. She helped Mr. Rochester cope with his blindness. As years passed, he began to regain some of his sight. He no longer needed to fully rely on someone to help him everywhere. That is when they had their first child, a boy. Jane and Mr. Rochester lived together happily with their new baby. One theme in this novel is how there were strict social classes. Jane was very educated and well mannered because she needed those traits to be a good governess. As a governess, Jane was in a lower class which resulted in her being treated as a servant and being powerless while at Thornfield Hall. When Jane was aware of her feelings f
