Egypt

The two earliest settlements and ways of life were the Egyptians and the Mesopotamians. Although there was plenty of differences between the two early civilizations there were also uncanny similarities that show how our way of life today has some direct coloration with the ideas and thoughts of the Egyptians and Mesopotamians. Throughout their existence both of these civilizations used their land, people, and religion to come up with a way of life and a sense of togetherness that was previously unheard of.
Both Mesopotamia and Egypt grew in population by the great natural resources that the land provided for them. In Mesopotamia it was the Tigris and Euphrates and in Egypt it was the Nile. Both civilizations relied on the fresh water supply of these rivers in order to have farms and be able to stay in one place and not continue being nomadic herders and wanderers. Egyptian culture relied heavily on the Nile flooding and depositing large amounts of silt and other rich nutrients in order to farm enough food for the people. Mesopotamia used their two rivers to set up dams and a irrigation system that allowed them to farm the much arid land of today's region of Iraq. Each civilization was smart enough to realize what the problem was that forced them to be nomadic and used the rivers to change that and it lead to two of the largest civilizations of the time.
Although both civilizations figured out farming they both had different ideas as to what to do with leaders and what should be done as far as governing. In Mesopotamia they had kings of each individual state and also had noble men underneath them and together they were able to deal with issues that came to them. Egypt used the idea of chosen people as their leaders and therefore made for Pharos and high government in charge of the whole land. In both of their different governments they each had a general consensus of rules and in turn used these "laws" to regulate themselves and set up punishments.
