Obesity increases the likelihood of developing high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure. CHD is caused by the thickening of the inside walls of the coronary arteries. This thickening is called atherosclerosis, narrows the space through which blood flows decreasing of cutting off the heart’s oxygen and nutrient supply. Atherosclerosis usually occurs when a person has high levels of cholesterol (usually obese people), in the blood.
When cholesterol level in the blood is high, there is greater chance that it will be deposited onto the artery walls, thus narrowing the arteries and can slow or block blood flow.
