Persuasive Argument

In the past 10 or 15 years more and more talented athletes have made a decision to leave school early and try to make lots of money being a professional athlete. All of them believe that they could make the big bucks and become a huge star. This is just not the case for many of them. Out of all the college athletes that leave school early and believe they will have a long career in the professional level, most of them are busts, and out of the pros within three years. Many of them receive very bad information from the wrong people, agents, and people that look up to them. They grow a big ego and believe they are better then they think, so they leave school early only to be disappointed on the day of the draft and not hear their name called. These players left college early thinking they will have a job with a professional team but find themselves jobless and unable to go back to school and finish their four years of eligibility for their sport. How can we help these athletes make the right decisions in their life, and have them finish college so they could improve their skills and have them receive a college diploma so they could be successful if they don’t make it big in the prof

The final reason college athletes should be paid for playing their sport in college is because of all the money receives though what these athletes do. The eight college football teams that made it to a BCS bowl game made on average 2.2 million dollars for there athletic programs (www.espn.go.com/abcsports/bcs/). Most major college football teams sell about 70,000 tickets at 25 dollars each. That comes to 1.75million dollars per game and there is on average 5 or 6 games. This doesn’t even take into consideration the concessions that are sold. So every year colleges make 10s of millions of dollars off of these athletes and the athletes see absolutely none of it. I don’t see how this is fair for these athletes, they spend all the time and all the effort into these athletic events and they see none of the rewards. Instead it goes to the school that did nothing to earn the money they are receiving. Also if the students all leave because they are not going to get paid for playing the schools wouldn’t profit from these games. Fans want to see the best college athletes they can so to ensure that people will come and watch the games the colleges need to be able to put the best athletes out on the field.
