Since the beginning of Wal-Mart many years ago, there have been many towns and communities opposing it. For example: Rhonda Miller of Jonesville, a small town in South Carolina says this:

In Jonesville, a Wal-Mart would definitely be opposed. Our people and local stores hold a lot of pride in the things we have and how we achieved those things. The community is too close-knit to let something like a Wal-Mart tear us apart.

As you can see, some people are not very supportive. The reasons for this are as follows: people know that in order to obtain a Wal-Mart on Main Street in their community, a lot of old buildings that have been standing for years would have to be torn down, and the new Wal-Mart would also put many locally owned stores or markets out of business. To small communities, that’s not good news.

In my opinion, Al Norman has a really good point from the view of a small town inhabitant. Coming from a small town myself, I agree with him totally.
