Jerry Uelsmann’s work is very different and unique. Shown in a picture he made is an image of a bright star burning passionately through the cumuli-nimbus clouds. The star’s light falls upon two hands of an elderly male in the center of the photograph. He is holding an egg, which is broken apart. Within is the shape of a woman, turned to her right. In the splintering of the egg you can see a profile of the woman. The hands of the elderly man vanish into the ocean. The star’s shining casts a shadow of a human silhouette on the rough water surface. From the distance the water seems smooth, however as you come close it becomes intensely course and foam-like. The rough waters, on which the silhouette lies, washes off gently on the rocky bank.
de up of three-dimensional pictures, excluding the profile of the woman in the fault line and her silhouette in the water. The picture consists of a realistic environment. The image evolves from the values of black and white shades. There is a horizon line between the water and the sky. Luminous color light is implied where the star shines. The main focus of the print is the hands holding the egg in front of the sky, the darkness, and the water.
When examining the picture one can see that it appears to be the relationship between human race and God. The star symbolizes the future and the circle of life. Clouds portray the disbelief and the confusion of humans. The two hands designate the creator of life. The egg and the female ‘s profile are a symbolization of the beginning (birth)
