Currently, a number of the people of the United States have decided to misinterpret the constitution and remove all religious background from the state. The truth is, separation of church and state the way people perceive it today is in no ways found in the constitution. The first amendment was to keep the state from influencing the church, not the other way around. The history of our country was built off of religion.
