Shakespeare and the Bible

William Shakespeare - The Early Years

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Shakespeare's dad was a businessman and mayor. Back in the 1500s, there was a lot of disease, like the plague, so many of Shakespeare's sibs died when they were young. Shakespeare went to grammar school but did not go to university. When William Shakespeare was 18 he married his pregnant girlfriend, Anne Hathaway, who was eight years older than him. William Shakespeare's daughter, Susanna, was born seven months after the wedding. Shakespeare went on to have fraternal twins, Hamnet and Judith. Shakespeare's son Hamnet died when he was only 11 years old.

William Shakespeare's first poem, Venus and Adonis, was published in 1593. William Shakespeare went on to write 154 poems and 37 plays. Although William Shakespeare gained fame from his works, he made most of his money in real estate. William Shakespeare was even part owner of the Globe Theater where many of his plays were performed. The most amazing thing about William Shakespeare is that his works are even more famous now than when he was alive. Ashton Kutch

Shakespeare was very famous in this period. His plays gained even more popularity, and he was considered the most popular playwright of the time. He remained a stockholder, an actor, and wrote about two plays per year for his company, the Chamberlain’s Men. During the 1590’s Shakespeare was not only famous, but he had also gained a great wealth. He bought two very expensive houses in Stratford. Shakespeare still wished to live in Stratford, but his busy life prevented him from doing so. Records showed that he preferred to invest most of his money in Stratford.

Quotes and phrases of William Shakespeare, the greatest of all English writers have become part and parcel of our culture and speech, but much about the man's life and beliefs remains mysterious. Even the date of his death is not certain, although it is generally thought that he died on this date, April 23, 1616. This would have been almost on Shakespeare's 52nd birthday (he was baptized the 26th of April, 1564 probably a few days after his birth).

At the age of seven, Shakespeare attended a strict, prestigious grammar school. Students studied Latin, since it was necessary in the time to have a successful career. The students attended classes nine hours per day, almost entirely year round, and were physically punished if they did not behave. This hardly seems like a school that would inspire the young boy, and this was minimal education considering his success.
