Throughout his career he has showed he can do much good on the field as he did off. In his first season he won the American League Rookie of the Year, which is a big honor to receive as a newly recruited baseball player. He won the Gold Glove three times, won the ESPY Award for Male Athlete of the year, and in 2001 was named the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. The most honored of them all which he will hold deep in his heart forever was being named to the All-Century-Team (Shortstop). His career stats are nothing to ignore with 1647 runs scored, 3184 hits, 431 homeruns, 1695 runs batted in, and a batting average of .285. These stats don’t come from an average baseball player in the Majors. To have these stats and awards you must be a fabulous athlete with much talent and skill.

To be a role model you have to show much character off the field. It shows your fans that you care for them and respect them for respecting you. During the summer of 1989, it blistering heat had come upon the city of Baltimore. It was reaching mid 90’s to 100 almost everyday.
