Robin Warshaw’s text The Reality of Acquaintance Rape discusses how acquaintance rape has been increasingly accepted as a real and relative problem in today’s society. Multiple different “organizations, counselors, and social researchers agree that acquaintance rape is the most prevalent rape crime today” (Warshaw 327). Many people in today’s society think of rape as a strange person jumping out of the bushes at an innocent female. According to the text and other figures, rape actually occurs most often between two people that know each other. The problem is that the majority of the time acquaintance rape occurs it is not reported to police officials due to the fear of skepticism and doubt from the judges and their peers. The victim also usually questions herself if it was her fault and what could she have done to have prevented the situation? Acquaintance rape has become more prevalent on college campuses today than it has been in the past. Many believe this is because families today are ignoring the realities of social pressures on both males and females. Other factors such as coed dorms and unchecked curfews are believed to contribute to increasing cases of acquaintance rape. This should b

I strongly accept the evidence and the argument presented in the text because she uses various statistics to support her beliefs. This greatly helps establish her credibility because it shows that she completed background research to get further evidence to support her ideas and beliefs. By using specific statistical numbers such as “only 90,434 rapes were reported to U.S. law enforcement agencies in 1986” (Warshaw 327) helps to grab the audience’s attention. It helps make the fact credible because you can tell it is a number that has been researched and not just simply estimated or made up. Also by using percentages such as “ 44 percent of the women questioned had been victims of rape or attempted rape- and that 88 percent of the rape victims knew their attackers” (Warshaw 263) makes the fact more realistic. It allows the audience to visually picture how many people were actually affected by the statistic. Although the author did a very good job of using quotes and statistics to make her argument credible, I think that she could have improved her credibility by u
