legalizing certain drugs for many years. For example, people have been smoking marijuana throughout history but for the past thirty years it has become a real problem. Kids start smoking before they even enter high school. Some even become addicted to it so that they always have to have it. If it keeps up, they start to overlook what really matters in their lives at that age, like school and families. Their only ambition is to get a hold of more marijuana. Yes, there are some kids who are able to balance getting good grades in school and smoking but there are always those others who will rearrange their priorities. A few think that marijuana is the “gateway drug”. What this means is that once people have been smoking pot, they may end up bored with it and would want to experiment with new drugs such as cocaine or even something as horrifying as heroine. When you become addicted to those, there isn’t much hope to stop. Some people are able to receive rehabilitation and end their streak as addicts but many will proceed just like always. They ruin their lives and end up with no one caring.

Some people think that all drugs should be made legal because then maybe it wouldn’t be such a problem in our society and it will stop the “adventure” it is to get the drugs. If drugs are made legal then maybe particular people will stop doing them because it is half the fun to get a hold of the drugs as it is to actually do them. In my opinion, drug prohibition today is just as bad as it was for alcohol in the 1920’s. People are still doing drugs and nothing really
