There are numerous definitions of caudillo. Hugh M. Hamill defines caudillo and
caudillismo as, “ basic variants of dictator and dictatorship in the Spanish world.”
These great people gained status in their communities and proved to their people
that they were influential men and women.
There are various ranges of caudillos, just as there are in politics. They can range
from liberal to moderate and anything in between and can come from any background.
Caudillos also have numerous rankings parallel to the army and military. Elections were
very important in the selection of these leaders and were decided by their peoples. Within
these political group, central leadership is the controlling agent.
The ranges of a caudillo are very diverse. Like any politician, they are labeled by
their party but can also be labeled as stonch or not, ( liberal, moderate, conservative).
