reqiuem for a dream

3 Requiem for a Dream

The motion picture “Requiem for a Dream” is an emotionally charged film linking the lives of a lonely widow, her son Harry, his girlfriend Marion, and his best friend Tyrone. Set in Coney Island, Brooklyn all four characters lose their grip on their dreams, has their addiction to drugs grows. Has their addictions grow they become more and more desperate to try and hold on, refusing to let go, of their dreams. No matter how hard they tried, they all freefell into a nightmare; costing them their lives. Drugs destroy all hope of people’s dreams and drugs become the only thing important to them.

Harry’s mother, Sara Goldfarb spent her days watching infomercials and eating chocolate alone in her apartment. After a vague phone call that promised to put her on television (her dream) she started to take diet pills so that she could fit into an old, fancy dress for her big moment. The longer and longer Sara Goldfarb took the pills the more and more she got addicted. Soon after, she stopped eating all together and became obsess with being on television.

Harry Goldfarb hung around with his best friend Tyrone investing in small amounts of money in heroin. Their goal was to work up the drug-dealer food chain so that they could buy a “pound of pure” and sit back and let the money roll in. In the beginning their business was successful and they made money and shot up the profits. Soon, however the market slowed down taking their business. Eventually, they spent all their profit on heroin and became hooked. All they did during the day was to try to score drugs for their business. Unsuccessful, they started to do more and more heroin leading to their downfall. At the end, Harry needed his arm amputated, because of his consistent use of heroin. Tyrone ended up getting caught with heroin and was put in jail. Both men’s dreams and lives were ruined, because of their drug addiction. Their business didn’t seem to matter anymore; just scoring heroin and shooting up did. Harry and Tyrone tried to hold on to their dreams, not realizing it was already over. As soon has drugs have you they got you. There is no turning back, because drugs are your life.
