There are numerous theories of how a child's personality is created. I believe that children are born simply in a blank state. I consider the environment in which they grow up within to be the major factor in establishing a child's personality. I base my theory on my own childhood experiences; I know that my experiences and environment greatly affected and help form my personality.
Children are continuously developing, and anything that the child witnesses makes an impression somewhere within. This may not be seen for years to come, but yet it will still affect the child. A child knows no different than what he or she is taught or becomes accustomed to. Every tragedy and every event within the child's life will make an impact on the young mind.
For the majority of my childhood I was subjected to witnessing abuse, alcoholism, adultery and later divorce all before the age of twelve. Every little thing I saw, every sound I heard and everything I encountered tore me apart. Yet in the outcome of it all I learned that it actually helped build me up even stronger.
I was forced to grow up faster than most kids my age. But I made a promise to myself to not let it break me down. As crazy as it may sound I became a better person .
because of the environment for in which I was raised. I knew that if I could possibly get through this, that I could make through anything that life threw my way.
With everything that was negative around me I learned to search deep in all situations to find the positive in whatever it may be. This affects the way I approach people and my situations to this day. .
My parents were there for me through the whole ordeal. This is where I tie in the nature-nuture theory. The strongest bond is that that is built between a child and their parents. The way the parents approach and treat the child greatly affects the child. If a parent is compassionate, caring and loving I believe that the child will learn from that and model themselves after the parent's example.
